NBMBAA® 43rd Annual Conference & Career Exposition Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

THE BASICS

When and where is this year’s NBMBAA® Annual Conference?

The 43rd Annual Conference & Exposition will be Live and Digital.
The live Conference and Career Expo will occur September 14-18 at McCormick Place (West Building) in Chicago, IL.
The digital Conference will take place September 15-17, hosted from Chicago.
The virtual career fair will occur September 21-22.

When is the Career Expo?

The live Career Expo will be Thursday, September 16 from 9 AM-5 PM CT and Friday, September 17 from 9 AM-3 PM CT.

The Virtual Career Fair will take place digitally on Tuesday, September 21 and Wednesday, September 22 from 1 PM-5 PM ET, daily.

How and When can I register for the Conference?

Registration should open in early June. Check back on our conference page.

How do I become a member of NBMBAA?

COVID-19

What is NBMBAA® doing to ensure the safety of attendees and exhibitors attending the 43rd Annual Conference & Exposition?

Our top priority is the health and safety of all our attendees, exhibitors, vendors, and staff. In addition to following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and all federal, state, and local mandates, NBMBAA® is working closely with our partners in Chicago to create protocols that will provide the safest environment for our conference event in September.

How many people do you expect to attend in Chicago?

We would currently expect to draw 60-70% of our normal attendance, estimated at 6,000-7,000 people.

 

Will there be limits on the number of people who can register to come in person?

No, we do not intend to limit registration. We have space within the McCormick Place West building to spread out our footprint and should our attendees exceed our estimates, we will expand accordingly.

 

Do I have to be vaccinated to attend?

No. But we highly recommend that if you do not have a health restriction that would preclude you from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, that you ensure you are fully vaccinated before traveling to the conference event. This will give you the highest level of protection and protect those who cannot get vaccinated.

PROGRAMMING

What kind of events will there be this year?

We will have unique educational programs and social/networking events, including our Welcome Reception, corporate hospitality receptions, the Scale-Up Pitch Challenge finals, and a celebration of the 30th Anniversary of our Leaders of Tomorrow® program.

Are there any pre-Conference courses this year?

No, pre-Conference courses are not being offered this year.

HOUSING & REGISTRATION

How do I get a hotel room?

NBMBAA® has preferred rates at key Chicago hotels. Booking through NBMBAA ensures not only the best rates and experience but supports the organization.
Corporate Housing is open now.
Individual Housing opens May 5.

What are the registration types for 2021?

This year, we will offer four types of registration as a member or non-member. We encourage you to become a member to secure the best pricing.

  1. Live + Digital Premium: Offers access to the in-personconference event in Chicago including the Digital Conference and Career Fair.
  2. Digital Premium: Access to the Digital Conference and Career Fair.
  3. Live + Digital Standard: Access to the in-person Career Expo, in-person social events, corporate hospitality receptions and the digital Career Fair.
  4. Digital Standard: Access to the digital Career Fair.

What are the registration costs for 2021?

These will be announced in May. Please check our conference page for more information.

Is there a student discount?

Discounts are only offered to members. Students can join and register for member discounts. Non-member students are subject to non-member rates. Visit here for more information on membership.

How do I join NBMBAA® to receive a registration discount?

Visit the member page here to complete your membership purchase. Be sure to use the email address from your membership profile when you register for the conference event.

I am on the Member Installment Plan. What if I miss a payment?

Your membership must be paid through the year for your registration discount to be maintained. If you miss a payment or your credit card fails, you will be required to pay your membership in full toreceive a badge or login credentials for the conference event.

I am exhibitor or sponsor. How do I register?

Exhibitor and Sponsor registrations are handled through the Exhibitor or Sponsor dashboards. Exhibitor/Sponsor registration begins in mid-July. Please contact your account representative if you are a sponsor (pd@nbmbaa.org).  For exhibitors, contact exhibitor support via blackmba@naylor.com.

When will registration be available for sponsors/exhibitors?

Overall registration should be available in June.

Where do I register?

You will be able to access your allotment through the Exhibitor Portal in June. Login credentials will be sent from NBMBAA® Show Management.

Where can I get an Exhibitor Kit?

Exhibitor kits will be available to exhibitors within the Exhibitor Portal sometime in May.

I keep getting emails to buy the “NBMBAA Attendee List”. Is this real?

No. This is a list scam. We do not sell our subscriber, member nor partner lists.

Someone has called me for housing. Is that how I secure a hotel block?

No. Our official housing provider is MCI USA and they will never call unsolicited. There are housing scammers who will call offering rooms and are not guaranteed nor official.  Only rooms booked through our block and official provider are protected.

Who is authorized to contact me on behalf of NBMBAA?

NBMBAA® partners with several vendors to provide services. However, in most cases those partners will not reach out to you, but official partners who may contact you include:

CAREER EXPO/VIRTUAL CAREER FAIR

How can I see who will be attending the Career Expo?

Visit our online floorplan.

Can I do the live and the virtual career fairs?

Yes! Some companies cannot travel this year, so if you are able, we encourage you to participate in both events to have access to the widest group of companies.

Do I need special software for the virtual career fair?

No, but there are some system requirements for you to have to best experience. We will be using a new platform this year and details will be available this summer.

Will there be interviewing at the virtual career fair?

Yes, corporate partners will conduct on-site interviewing (by chat and video conference).

How do I get an interview?

Corporate Partners will post job and pre-screen résumés for interviews this summer. Make sure you visit careersuccess.nbmbaa.org as soon as you register or follow the link on your registration confirmation to visit the NBMBAA Career Success Network® job board, upload your current résumé, apply for current jobs and contact employers. Conference Job Match opens July 1, so don’t delay.

Do I have to post my résumé in advance?

No, but we highly recommend you post it as soon as possible if you are job seeking. Recruiters will be looking at candidates all summer.

What if I don’t post my résumé in advance?

Without posting your résumé, employers will not be able to find you to offer pre-scheduled interviews. You will still be able to upload yourrésumé on the event day for consideration, but you will not have interviews set up in advance and will have to rely on whatever chats/interviews you can secure on the fly during the event days.  We highly recommend posting yourrésumé or curriculum vitae as soon as possible.

Annual membership contract, paid in monthly installments with automatic renewal Service begins as soon as your initial payment is processed. You will be charged 1/12 of the annual membership fee at the time of purchase, every month for the duration of your annual contract. Your membership contract will renew automatically, on your annual renewal date, until you cancel your membership in writing no later than 30 days prior to your annual renewal by contacting membership support. Renewal rates are subject to change, but you will be notified at least 30 days prior to your annual renewal date if your renewal rate will change. Should you cancel before your one-year term has expired, you will be charged 100% of your remaining contract obligation and your service will continue until the end of until the end of your contracted term. Cancellations can be made any time by contacting membership support in writing. Annual prepaid membership contract, with automatic renewal Service begins as soon as your payment is processed. You will be charged, immediately in full, the annual membership fee at the time of purchase. Your contract will renew automatically, on your annual renewal date, unless you cancel your membership in writing by no later than 30 days prior to your annual renewal date by contacting membership support. Renewal rates are subject to change, but you will be notified at least 30 days prior to your annual renewal date if your renewal rate will change. Should you cancel before your one-year term has expired, your payment is non-refundable, and your service will continue until the end of your contracted term. Cancellations can be made any time by contacting membership support in writing. Activation of Membership Memberships will become active upon processing of all materials at National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) headquarters. Existing Lifetime and Associate Lifetime Members The Lifetime or Associate Lifetime membership is no longer offered. Existing Lifetime or Associate Lifetime members who have paid in full are active for the duration of his or her lifetime, from their membership activation (see activation of membership). Lifetime or Associate Lifetime members are no longer eligible for any other membership type. Student Members Student memberships are active for 12 consecutive months, beginning at activation (see activation of membership). You will be considered a student member as long as you are actively enrolled in a recognized undergraduate or graduate degree program. Your membership should be upgraded to a Professional or Associate membership upon the expiration of your current membership, subsequent to graduation. You are required to submit proof of your current enrollment. The following items will be accepted as proof of current enrollment: • Letter from the registrar acknowledging your current enrollment status • Copy of your tuition bill • Class schedule reflecting your current enrollment. Should you fail to submit proof of current enrollment within 60 days, your membership may be terminated, and your payment will not be refunded. You will then need to reapply for membership. Refund Policy The NBMBAA will only provide refunds for the following reasons: • Verified duplication of billing • Verified overcharges • Submission of incorrect member type resulting in one of the above Refunds will be provided as follows: • Credit card payments will be credited to that same credit card. • Cash and check payments will be credited by NBMBAA check after 30 days, and only after initial payment has cleared our financial institution. * Refunds will be issued only upon request of the individual. The NBMBAA will vigorously defend itself against credit card charge backs. In the event that your credit card company requests a credit for charges, we will comply only to the extent that the request meets the requirements of the refund policy. (See above). Recurring Payments If you choose a recurring payments option to automatically renew your membership, you are responsible for canceling it prior to annual recurrence to avoid charges. Once charged, your membership will not be refunded. Notice of Photography and/or Videography As a condition of membership, individuals grant the National Black MBA Association an irrevocable nonexclusive license to use their name, image, voice and likeness for the purpose of advertising and promoting NBMBAA events, activities and products without any further approval from you or payment to you. It is the NBMBAA’s right to make visual and audio recordings, and still images of its members (collectively “Photography”) and to use the Photography and member’s name. However, none of the above shall be deemed as an endorsement for any NBMBAA product or service. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, members agree that the rights granted hereunder shall include the perpetual, worldwide right of NBMBAA to edit, telecast, rerun, record, publish, reproduce, use, license, print, distribute or otherwise exploit, in any manner and in any medium or forum, whether now known or hereafter devised.
