For the first time the NBMBAA® Annual Conference & Exposition will be hosting a hybrid conference. Therefore, we are recruiting both digital volunteers and those that want to volunteer on-site in-person. To ensure the success of this year’s conference we are depending on your support as a volunteer. We are expecting thousands of attendees to join our digital and in-person conference, requiring a great deal of “behind-the-scenes” coordination. Q: Why it’s important to volunteer for NBMBAA®?  

NBMBAA is one of several groups for which I volunteer. I love supporting great causes! It’s part of who I am. Ever since volunteering in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina in 2006, I’ve had a burning passion to keep volunteering whenever possible.

It takes a village, as “they” say. NBMBAA works so hard for us. For example, thanks to an NBMBAA conference, I received an awesome job offer which I gladly accepted. I like to find ways to help NBMBAA help us. It’s like a circle of service. I love “paying it forward”.

Q. What did I get out of it – especially regarding professional development?

NBMBAA pours into me even while I’m volunteering for them. For example, I am able to sharpen my strong customer service skills for members and clients. Also, I am trusted to make important decisions in fast-paced, quickly changing spaces. Not to mention the perks like great networking, the teams are fun to work with, and free access to the conference experience!

Q. Why encourage others to volunteer?

NBMBAA needs volunteers to support their massive projects, like their annual conference & career fair. It is not only a way of giving back but it is also a way in which you get back so much more. My first volunteering experience with the NBMBAA Conference was in the digital space last year; and the opportunities to network, hone my professional skills, and attend the career fair were life-changing and professionally defining for me. How do I become a Volunteer?

You can register to become a volunteer by clicking HERE.  You may choose to be a digital volunteer from the comfort of your home environment, or you may choose to join us in Chicago, IL.

What volunteer opportunities are available?

Volunteering in this digital conference will require our team to assist in both program and event opportunities, in the role of Chat Room Support, Postings, and assisting managing Q & A. These areas will be the bulk of volunteer roles in the virtual space but may not be limited to these roles only.

In-person volunteers will assist on-site Team Leaders in the program and event space. Volunteers are allowed to select opportunities that are interesting to them. Some opportunities involve product placement, engaging with the speakers, providing general information to attendees, and supporting the efficient flow of main events like luncheons, career expo, workshops, and sessions.

Can I register for multiple volunteer assignments?

All volunteers may register for as many opportunities as they like.  We only asked that you please honor your volunteer commitment and communicate any changes to your availability in advance.

Volunteer Conference Orientation?

All Volunteers are required to attend ONLY one of the orientations listed below. Therefore, you should plan your arrival for in-person volunteering based on the orientation you want to attend.

Can I attend Conference sessions?

Volunteers are allowed to register for conference events at their own expense. Being a volunteer does not gain you access to events, sessions, or activities free of charge.

Digital Conference volunteers will be given access to the conference virtually to operate in a volunteer role only.

What is the volunteer dress code?

All volunteer assignments will not be viewed live, therefore there is no dress code for those volunteering in the digital space.

In-person volunteers must wear business attire unless the volunteer opportunities require otherwise. Each opportunity (assignment) will list the required attire.  All volunteers will receive a volunteer polo shirt that is to be worn when business attire is not mandated. Comfortable shoes are strongly encouraged.

Where and when is this year's Conference?

The 43rd Annual Conference & Career Exposition will be an IN-PERSON & DIGITAL CONFERENCE EXPERIENCE.

In-Person Conference and Career Exposition dates for Conference: September 14-18, 2021, and Career Expo: September 16-17, 2021. The location will be at McCormick Place, West Building, Chicago, IL.

Digital dates for Conference: September 15-17, 2021 and Career Expo: September 21-22, 2021.

Is there an age requirement for volunteering?

Yes, volunteers must be at least 18 years old to participate. You don’t have to be a member of the NBMBAA® to volunteer.

Can I choose my volunteer assignment?

In-person volunteers may choose their own assignments.

Digital volunteers are asked to choose one of the following activations. Secondly, you will be asked to choose one of these roles: Chat Room Support; Posting; or Q & A Management Support. We will be placing volunteers in assignments daily and our team will work with you to put you in events or sessions of your interest.

How much time do I need to give to my volunteer assignment?

Volunteers are expected to satisfy the entire time that is posted for the assignment, before leaving the digital room.  You must arrive in the digital volunteer office 45 minutes prior to the start of your day. The same is true for in-person volunteers. You must commit to the length of time for the assignment and must report to the volunteer office 45 minutes prior to the start of your opportunity/assignment.

About Rewards

Please note rewards structure for in-person volunteers are different from digital volunteers and cannot be mixed or interchanged. All rewards must be verifiable by use of our volunteer check-in system Volgistics. Failure to check-in and check-out may result in disqualifications for conference rewards.

Using rewards at Conference: 1-day Career Expo Pass good for two hours in scheduled times for onsite volunteers and digital volunteers will have access on September 21st and 22nd.

Post-Conference rewards will be in accordance with the Activation Platform you select to work, for digital volunteers. In-person volunteer’s post-conference rewards will be based on your membership status and the total number of hours you volunteered.

All rewards are non-transferable and must be redeemed prior to the expiration date. Failure to redeem your reward by the indicated deadline will result in the expiration of the reward. No rewards can be banked or carried over to another conference year. We will notify winners of Post Conference Rewards one week after the Conference Registration opens for the 2022 NBMBAA Conference. Annual membership contract, paid in monthly installments with automatic renewal Service begins as soon as your initial payment is processed. You will be charged 1/12 of the annual membership fee at the time of purchase, every month for the duration of your annual contract. Your membership contract will renew automatically, on your annual renewal date, until you cancel your membership in writing no later than 30 days prior to your annual renewal by contacting membership support. Renewal rates are subject to change, but you will be notified at least 30 days prior to your annual renewal date if your renewal rate will change. Should you cancel before your one-year term has expired, you will be charged 100% of your remaining contract obligation and your service will continue until the end of until the end of your contracted term. Cancellations can be made any time by contacting membership support in writing. Annual prepaid membership contract, with automatic renewal Service begins as soon as your payment is processed. You will be charged, immediately in full, the annual membership fee at the time of purchase. Your contract will renew automatically, on your annual renewal date, unless you cancel your membership in writing by no later than 30 days prior to your annual renewal date by contacting membership support. Renewal rates are subject to change, but you will be notified at least 30 days prior to your annual renewal date if your renewal rate will change. Should you cancel before your one-year term has expired, your payment is non-refundable, and your service will continue until the end of your contracted term. Cancellations can be made any time by contacting membership support in writing. Activation of Membership Memberships will become active upon processing of all materials at National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) headquarters. Existing Lifetime and Associate Lifetime Members The Lifetime or Associate Lifetime membership is no longer offered. Existing Lifetime or Associate Lifetime members who have paid in full are active for the duration of his or her lifetime, from their membership activation (see activation of membership). Lifetime or Associate Lifetime members are no longer eligible for any other membership type. Student Members Student memberships are active for 12 consecutive months, beginning at activation (see activation of membership). You will be considered a student member as long as you are actively enrolled in a recognized undergraduate or graduate degree program. Your membership should be upgraded to a Professional or Associate membership upon the expiration of your current membership, subsequent to graduation. You are required to submit proof of your current enrollment. The following items will be accepted as proof of current enrollment: • Letter from the registrar acknowledging your current enrollment status • Copy of your tuition bill • Class schedule reflecting your current enrollment. Should you fail to submit proof of current enrollment within 60 days, your membership may be terminated, and your payment will not be refunded. You will then need to reapply for membership. Refund Policy The NBMBAA will only provide refunds for the following reasons: • Verified duplication of billing • Verified overcharges • Submission of incorrect member type resulting in one of the above Refunds will be provided as follows: • Credit card payments will be credited to that same credit card. • Cash and check payments will be credited by NBMBAA check after 30 days, and only after initial payment has cleared our financial institution. * Refunds will be issued only upon request of the individual. The NBMBAA will vigorously defend itself against credit card charge backs. In the event that your credit card company requests a credit for charges, we will comply only to the extent that the request meets the requirements of the refund policy. (See above). Recurring Payments If you choose a recurring payments option to automatically renew your membership, you are responsible for canceling it prior to annual recurrence to avoid charges. Once charged, your membership will not be refunded. Notice of Photography and/or Videography As a condition of membership, individuals grant the National Black MBA Association an irrevocable nonexclusive license to use their name, image, voice and likeness for the purpose of advertising and promoting NBMBAA events, activities and products without any further approval from you or payment to you. It is the NBMBAA’s right to make visual and audio recordings, and still images of its members (collectively “Photography”) and to use the Photography and member’s name. However, none of the above shall be deemed as an endorsement for any NBMBAA product or service. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, members agree that the rights granted hereunder shall include the perpetual, worldwide right of NBMBAA to edit, telecast, rerun, record, publish, reproduce, use, license, print, distribute or otherwise exploit, in any manner and in any medium or forum, whether now known or hereafter devised.
